Letter To The Editor

I am writing in response to the nauseating negative campaign tactics one of our candidates for legislature has decided to mount against his opponent. Any candidate who has to resort to organizing and encouraging an underhanded derogatory letter campaign against his opposition ought not to receive even one single vote from Richland County residents. The sanctimonious rhetoric spewing from the pens of these individuals who have chosen to go along with these questionable ethics is enough to gag a maggot.

For the record, Tami Christensen happens to be a card carrying member of the National Rifle Association. She strongly supports second amendment rights, despite what her misinformed opponents claim.

I also very much appreciate the fact that Christensen strongly supports women's rights. Women's rights need to be defended against those who would see them stripped away one right at a time, and kudos for Christensen for having the courage and the foresight to defend those rights.

Christensen has lived in this area all her adult life. She has raised a family here, and she operates an important agricultural business in Sidney. She understands Richland County, she has involved herself in many ways to better this county, and she will serve ALL residents, not cater exclusively to the fringe element. Her opponent, on the other hand, moved back here simply to run for Legislature. He's out of touch with Richland County, and he brings with him big city campaign tactics that warns us in advance of how he will continue to behave if elected.

We sorely need moderate Democrats and Republicans in office, rational people who have beliefs and values but who understand that their way isn't necessarily the only way or even the best way; people who will reach out to find workable compromises with members of other parties and accomplish in a civilized, intelligent manner what best serves the people they were elected to represent.

When it comes to the vote in June, I for one will remember who ran her campaign with integrity and ethics, and I certainly won't forget which candidate ran his campaign trying to discredit his opponent, rather than focusing on the issues.
