Sidney Boys Basketball Senior Night

The Sidney High School Boys’ Basketball Team held their Senior Night last Friday. Seniors, with their parents, were acknowledged for their accomplishments and dedication to the team. This year’s team consisted of four seniors and two senior managers including: Jesse Abelseth, Justin Brown, Colton Moran, Austin Papka and managers Molly Brodhead and Chelsea Strasheim.

Coach Dan Strasheim had the following to say about the six seniors:

Jesse Abelseth has returned from Rapid City this past year, Jesse is in his 1st year at a varsity member of the Eagle boys’ basketball program. Jesse has a very positive and team first attitude. He has been a very nice addition to our team this season. His strengths have been on the offensive end of the floor for us. Jesse has been a real pleasure to be around, is an excellent person and I am grateful he came back to play for us this season.

Justin Brown is in his 3rd year as a varsity team member. Justin has become our most consistent all round player thus far this season. He is currently first or second in nine statistical categories for the Eagles. Justin’s strengths for our team are his tremendous work ethic and his never give up attitude. He also has shown a great willingness to do whatever it takes for the Sidney Eagles to be successful. Justin has been a real pleasure to have in our program and will be greatly missed next season. Not only is Justin a good basketball player, but also a very good student and an excellent person away from the basketball court.

Colton Moran is in his 3rd year as a varsity member of our basketball program. Colton has progressively improved throughout his career at Sidney High School. Colton’s biggest asset to our program has always been how hard he works when he is on the floor. Whether it is during a game or in practice, Colton has been a great example to our younger kids because he is always giving 100% when he is on the floor. Colton has been a real pleasure to coach the last three years and will be greatly missed next season. Colton is an excellent person away from the basketball court and also an excellent student in the classroom.

Austin Papka is in his 2nd year as a varsity team member. Austin’s biggest contribution to our team is on the defensive end of the floor. He has worked very hard the last two years to become one of our top defenders this season. Austin has been a great team player for us and will do whatever is necessary for our program to be successful. Austin has a wonderful attitude and has been a real pleasure to be around in practice. He will be greatly missed next season. Austin is an excellent person away from the basketball court.

Molly Brodhead, manager, is in her 3rd year as manager for the Eagle boy’s basketball program. Although being manager can be a thankless job, we greatly appreciate having Molly in our program. She has done a great job this season as our head manager. Molly is also an excellent person and very good student.

Not pictured is manager Chelsea Strasheim. Chelsea is in her 3rd year as manager for the Eagle boys’ basketball. Because of her duties with the drill team and cheerleading Chel usually only gets to help us with practice. We greatly appreciate the time she has put in. Chelsea is also an excellent person and an outstanding student.
