Parenting Class Offered for Parents of Young Children

How important are the early years of a child's life? What is a parent's role? How do you understand and enhance a young child's growth and development? These questions and others, are central to discovering how to help children have a good beginning, a happy beginning and a bright beginning and will be the focus of the Bright Beginnings parenting class offered this spring in Watford City.

Bright Beginnings will be held on Tuesday evenings, April 23, 30, May 7 and 14, at the Courthouse Meeting Room. These free classes will begin at 5:30 pm and conclude by 7 pm and will include a supper meal. Pre-registration is requested by Friday, April 19 at the McKenzie County Extension Office at 701-444-3451 or e-mail [email protected].

This curriculum focuses on key aspects of a child's growth and development and describes practical approaches for parents and other adults to understand and enhance such growth and development. Topics discussed will include: brain development, parent-child attachment, muscle and social development, emotional intelligence, reading and play.

These sessions will be presented by NDSU Extension Agent Marcia Hellandsaas and Katie Spurgeon with McKenzie County Social Services.
