Fairview PD And District II Alcohol & Drug Program Are Strengthening Efforts Against Underage Drinking And Driving, Prescription Drug Abuse And Misuse

Fairview Police Department has a unique opportunity for the next several years, to help reduce underage drinking and driving, and prescription drug abuse and misuse. Pairing with District II Alcohol & Drug Program, Fairview PD is able to provide these prevention services through the Partners for Success Grant.

The Partners for Success Grant is funded through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA), and is designed to increase the ability of states to assist high-need communities with emerging substance abuse problems. Specifically, the Partnership for Success Grant was created with two top substance abuse prevention priorities, one of them being assistance to prevent underage drinking in persons age 12-20 and the other for prescription drug abuse/misuse prevention ages 12-25.

The Fairview Police Department has already begun efforts to help reduce underage drinking and driving by providing extra patrols to help track down drivers that may be impaired. These efforts have already led to an increased number of DUI citations. Additionally, to help ensure that all Standard Field Sobriety Tests are being thoroughly completed, four Intoxilyzers have been purchased to replace outdated equipment and have already been placed in each patrol vehicle. Intoxilyzers are used to measure Blood Alcohol Content, or BAC through a breath test, which are administered during a DUI traffic stop.

Fairview PD also encourages members of the community to get involved in the Report a Drunk Driver campaign by calling 911 if they see an impaired driver on the roads. For any questions about the current prevention efforts taking place in Fairview, contact Nicole Hackley at District II Alcohol & Drug Program 433-4097 or Chief Cal Seadeek at 742-5531.
