Results Of Expanded Park Housing/Utilities Plan Environmental Assessment

FORT UNION TRADING POST NHS, ND – Fort Union announces the results of the Expanded Park Housing/Utilities Plan and Environmental Assessment (EA). “This plan analyzed two action alternatives,” said park superintendent Andy Banta. “The proposed alternatives focused on the immediate need for housing park employees.” The EA resulted in the selection of a preferred alternative that: Has no significant environmental impact on site resources, best address the needs of expanded park housing, and most economical and environmentally friendly option.

The preferred alternative meets two Park needs: expanded Park Housing and upgrade wastewater facilities. Housing would be construed in the same vicinity as current park housing, increasing by 11 bedroom units. Upgrades to the existing wastewater facilities will include building a new drain field west of park housing and above the 100-year flood plain, including septic tanks, lift station and other components. The total wastewater upgrades will disturb approximately 0.5 acres.
