3 Sidney Eagles Take State Speech, Drama & Debate Competition Championship

Fourteen members of the Sidney High School speech, drama, and debate team traveled to Columbia Falls MT Jan. 26-27 to compete in the state meet, a MHSA sanctioned competition, at Columbia Falls High School. They did very well, taking fourth as a team, but a few members excelled beyond the success of their team.

Cedar Hovde, a junior, competed and won 1st in humorous solo against 18 other orators. She will be going to the Regionals in Billings on Feb. 8-9. There she will be doing a humorous oral interpretation piece. If she continues to do well, Hovde may have a chance to go to Nationals in DeMoines IA in June.

Sam Pacarro, a sophomore, and Raine Bones, a junior, placed 1st in dramatic theatre. They competed against nine other teams of up to four individuals. Unfortunately, there was no event to transfer to the Regional competition. Neither of the girls will be able to compete next year for the Sidney Eagles. Pacarro will be leaving. Bones is a foreign exchange student and she will be returning home after the end of the school year.

Christy Pierce, head speech, drama, and debate coach, is proud of all the speech, drama, and debate team members. She found both scripts for Hovde, Pacarro, and Bones.

"I'll be sorry to see Sam and Raine go." she said and "There are no seniors on the team so they're all just going to get better."
