Kendal Kallevig, 73, Bozeman, MT

Kendal Kallevig died peacefully Sunday, March 10 at Spring Creek Memory Care in Bozeman. A Memorial Service will be Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 11 AM at Pella Lutheran Church in Sidney.

Kendal was born in Sidney on May 2, 1951. He lived an outdoor life in the lower Yellowstone Valley. At a young age, he had freedom to roam the creeks and hills, always hunting and fishing. Kendal was a proud University of Montana alum, and played baseball for the Grizzlies in the early 70s.

In 1980 Kendal married Becky Dasinger and they moved back to Sidney, where Kendal worked as a realtor for 35 years, retiring from Beagle Properties in 2016. Kendal loved raising his kids, Kendra and Joe – constantly fishing, hunting, gardening, coaching baseball and softball, and camping at Fort Peck. Kendal was a lifelong athlete and excelled at golf and handball. He was also an accomplished archer, and one of his most treasured activities was elk hunting each year in the CM Russell Wildlife Refuge. Kendal loved his canine companions - Babe, Clancy, Red, and Dotty - who accompanied him bird hunting on the prairie.

Becky and he were a great team, and family explorations were constant. The family traveled frequently, including trips to Norway where Kendal met many cousins and extended family. In recent years, Kendal and Becky spent much of their time travelling and enjoying their adult children and grandkids. Kendal especially enjoyed spending time with Joe's family in Alaska and drinking good coffee on trips to Europe.

Kendal will be remembered as an exceptional father, grandfather, and a loyal friend. His quiet, witty sense of humor will be missed.

Kendal was predeceased by his parents Clifford and Vivian (Strobeck) Kallevig, and his twin brother Randel. He is survived by his wife, Becky, children Kendra(Jeremy) of Bozeman, MT, and Josef (Heather) of Homer, AK. Kendal adored his grandchildren Malcolm and Rosalie Kallevig, and Forrest Champion. Also surviving are his siblings Julie Kraenzel, and Jerome and Noel Kallevig. He was close friends with brother and sister-in-law, Rick and Lynn Engum, sister-in-law Kathleen Linderman, and many cousins and nieces and nephews. He was especially close to Russ and Enid Houtari, Mike and Nancy Knaff, Alan McDonald and cousins Garth and Brent Kallevig.

Arrangements are in the care of Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service. http://www.dokkennelson.com
