Montana Office of Tourism to Host Tourism & Brand Workshop in Sidney June 27th

The Montana Department of Commerce Office of Tourism (MTOT) is bringing its tourism and brand workshop, entitled “Coming Together to Expand Montana’s Tourism Story,” to Sidney, June 27th at the Elks Lodge.

This free workshop is an outreach effort to assist businesses in northeastern Montana in bolstering their ability to attract and retain visitors to their area, and to learn about social media sites and best practices.

With tourism being one of Montana’s leading industries and a key economic driver for the state, MTOT views the workshop as an opportunity to help businesses attract some of the 10.7 million visitors that travel to Montana each year. These non-resident visitors bring new money into Montana’s economy spending $3.2 billion annually during their stay.

“In the Missouri River Country travel region alone, out-of-state visitors spent over $48 million in 2011,” said Jeri Duran, Administrator for the Montana Office of Tourism. “With over 60% of the travelers to your region coming for vacation as well as visiting family and friends, Missouri River Country has an excellent audience to showcase your area in order to extend their stay and increase their spending in your communities. This workshop will help provide the tools and resources to do just that.”

The workshop will be held at the Elks Lodge from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is no cost to attend, however for planning purposes, interested participants are required to pre-register for the workshop. Please RSVP to http://j.mp/SidneyJune27.

The workshop will include an overview of MTOT’s efforts in supporting and promoting tourism both statewide and in Northeastern Montana, as well as brainstorming sessions to discuss how the area can draw more visitors annually. MTOT will share recommendations on how to increase tourism to northeastern Montana garnered in part from input provided during the brainstorming sessions. In addition, a recap of the MTOT road trip of the area undertaken prior to the workshop will be shared; a social media team, comprised of a combination of individuals from MTOT, Missouri River Country and MercuryCSC, will have spent four days traveling in the region, gathering information about attractions, activities, restaurants, and the like, to highlight on Montana’s Facebook (www.facebook.com/visitmontana) and Twitter (twitter.com/visitmontana) pages.

Here are the session details:
