Lunderby Home

Parade of Homes

On a county road only minutes from town, is a uniquely beautiful log home that ambiance with its wrap-around covered porches, stone fireplace, rustic furnishings and soaring ceilings. After much anticipation, the Lunderby family is proud to call this architectural wonder "home."

Steve Lunderby always dreamed of building a log home for his family, so he contacted long-time family friend, John Pashek from Wisconsin. John is a builder that specializes in log homes and he and several Lunderby employees worked many months on this masterpiece. Upon entering through the solid wood front door, one will immediately notice the vaulted ceilings with massive beams, exposed log walls and custom oak flooring. Upon closer inspection, you will notice the unique wood trim on the lights, perfectly matched logs and beautiful window trims. What you won't see are the fasteners that hold the logs together, as John skillfully hid them all. This home truly is a work of art.

The main living area reflects Shanna's love of the western way of life as it is decorated with a stunning cowhide sofa and rug from Tri-Fecta Home Furnishings, a rustic pine table and chairs and matching buffet, horseshoe art, cowboy memorabilia and many family treasures. Tall windows and patio doors grace each wall and look out onto the barns and the roping arena. The warm tones of wood are accented with varying shades of turquoise and burnt orange. It is not only a beautiful room but comfortable as well.

The kitchen is located in the corner of this open-concept area and the dark knotty alder cabinets contrast perfectly with the natural color of the logs. However, the high-lite of this area is the stunning granite countertop that is appropriately named "Splendor Creme." The vivid colors in this top tie all of the other colors together that are throughout the living area. As with the other areas in the home, the kitchen is efficient as well as beautiful, thanks to the layout that was expertly designed by Brenda Larson of Creative Solutions. The massive island seats at least 6 and provides ample counterspace. Roll-out shelves, a recycle center, pull-out spice racks ,two giant supersusans, an undermount sink and a walk-in pantry add to the efficiency as do the the state-of-art stainless steel appliances that were purchased from PATH. The 36" stove is perfect for large stockpots and Shanna's favorite 14"cast iron frying pan.

The master suite is a relaxing sanctuary that is decorated in warm shades of chocolate brown¸ ivory and turquoise. Western art and decorations adorn the walls as well as the dressers and the massive entertainment center. The spacious bathroom features dark knotty alder cabinetry with many drawers, pull-out storage cabinets and a grooming organizer for curling irons and a blow dryer, as well as Cambria Quartz countertops with undermount sinks. The cabinetry and countertops and closet organizers were purchased from Creative Solutions. The focal point of the room is the large barnwood frame that was custom-made by Tim Larson and it reflects the warm tones of the tile that are on the floor and extend into the large walk-in shower. The tile was furnished by Jessica Kostelecky. French doors lead to a ginormous hot-tub that is perfect for relaxing.

A large western-inspired guest-bedroom and bath are also on the main level of the house, as well as a laundry room and a back entry that features a locker system in the same knotty alder cabinets that are in the rest of the home.

An impressive log stairway leads to the loft area that can be used for reading or just relaxing and overlooks the living and dining rooms. (This is a beautiful sight to see!) This quiet comfort zone, with its plush, comfy carpeting from Chads Furniture, leads to the two son's bedrooms, their bathroom and the family game room.

Jake is the Lunderby's oldest son and his bedroom reflects his passion for car racing and Chevys. Collectible cars, racing memorabilia, and Chevy parts adorn the walls as well as many racing photographs. Jake's favorite photo is the one taken with his dad and himself at the racetrack. A custom headboard made from a tailgate and crankshaft nitestands complete the decor while a large walnut dresser made by Jake in high-school and a walk-in closet, complete with Lifespan shelving, keep him organized.

The other bedroom belongs to Dillon and the décor in this room reflects his love for rodeo and the western way of life. Cowboy hats, boots, spurs, and ropes decorate the room along with a pair of his grandpa's chaps. Once again, all of the wood is the perfect backdrop for cowboy memorabilia. Dillon is a team-roper and calf-roper on the High School Rodeo Team and this is a great space to hang out with this friends.

The long hallway leads to the family's game room that screams "fun" with the pool table that transforms to a ping-pong table, pin-ball machine, poker table, tv area and the custom bar area made of barnwood. The bar top is an epoxy-coated, 3" slab of wood that is inlaid with family treasures and is mitered perfectly. It is awesome! Rough-cut lumber that was finished with many coats of polyurethane is on the floor and fence boards in a "board and baton" design are on the bottom sections of the walls and sheets of copper are on the top. Western art and signs with fun sayings adorn these unique walls.

"This home is so comfortable and is built for entertaining family and friends," said Shanna. "The kitchen is a great place to work. I have been canning recently and I had plenty of space. I also like the way the doors and trim contrast with the creamy-colored painted walls as well as the all of the logs. I bought the paint from Johnson's Hardware and Tri-Fecta. Rhonda Rupp and her team painted the inside of the house and Creative Solutions sold us the doors and trim as well as all of the cabinets and tops. It is all beautiful."

Shanna really doesn't like to decorate, so she enlisted the help of her friend Vanessa Pooch, Brenda Larson and family and friends. They all scoured decorating shops, antique stores, flea markets and many internet sites to find the decorations and furniture for this one-of-a-kind home. "Shanna gave us free reign to do whatever we thought would look good," said Brenda. "It was so much fun shopping for her! Vanessa, Shanna and all of my family and many friends, had a great time putting it all together too!"

Last, but not least, is the oversized, three car garage that is also finished. (This space has all of the men drooling almost as bad as the game room does!) The walls are lined with a sheeting that is used in milking houses so it is easy to clean and is also durable and bright white. The exterior walls are lined with a few shelves and coat and boot racks. The dark carriage-style doors are the perfect complement to the front of the home.

As with any new home, there is always a list of things that still need to be done and Shanna is anxious to get the landscaping finished. She has plans for lots of concrete out front and "real" grass and even lilac bushes close to the porch so she can enjoy their sweet fragrance in the spring! There are also many more antiques that she wants to get from her parents to use for decoration inside and outside of the home, but she know it all takes time and lots of energy. "It's all good," she says with a smile.

The Lunderby family is grateful that they live and work in the Sidney area and proud to be a part of the Parade of Homes. "Both of our companies, Lunderby Livestock and Lunderby Trucking are always willing to donate to the youth of our area and we realize that the Boys and Girls Club is essential for the well-being of the little ones. It is a great organization and we are proud to help with this fundraiser. We hope you all enjoy our home as much as we do."
