Carol Hartman "Hardscrabble" Free Opening Reception Friday, Nov. 7 at 7pm

The MonDak Heritage Center welcomes artist Carol Hartman, an Eastern Montana native, with a special opening reception on Friday November 7, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. Her exhibit, /Hardscrabble/, the show’s title, refers to the Hardscrabble Creek which flows through northern Richland County.

“I believe color relates to the moment, to the emotions found in one’s life, hence the drama of existence.” Carol uses imagery and experiences from early years on a rural Montana ranch that have formed deep pockets of memories for her. “I now live in the moment and my imagery incorporates those memories of the past into my dramatic oil and cattle marker paintings of today. I have come to appreciate the taste, the touch, the sounds, the smells and the sights of my surroundings, along with the rich history of the land and its people.” Carol enjoys painting landscape scenes using oils, oil pigment sticks and cattle markers, usually on a hand-made square format supported by cradle boards. “Finger painting is preferred to usage of brushes in an attempt to identify and touch my subject matter!”

Born and raised in Charley Creek, Carol graduated from Sidney Senior High. Her formal art training came from Montana State University in Bozeman, and from California State University in Fresno. After teaching at CSU-Fresno, and exhibiting both paintings and installations both at home and abroad, Carol returned to Montana five years ago to paint full-time. She appreciates the support of her family and friends in Montana, who continually enrich her creativity.

Carol will be joining the MonDak Heritage Center 120 3^rd Ave SE, Sidney MT on November 7th for the opening of /Hardscrabble /from 7 - 9pm. Please plan to attend and view this wonderful art and visit with Carol. The show runs from November 7, 2014 thru February 7, 2015. Visit Carol’s website at _www.carolhartman.biz_ for a preview.
