Deadline for Community Enhancement Grant Applications is Dec. 15

The deadline for Williston STAR Fund Community Enhancement Grants is drawing near.

Williston Economic Development must receive the applications by Monday, December 15, 2014.

The Community Enhancement Grant is supported by the STAR Fund. It is designed to benefit non-profit activities and organizations that enhance the quality of life in the Williston trade area. This year up to $50,000 is available for qualifying applicants.

The Williston STAR Fund was created in 1991 to support a variety of economic growth projects in the trade region. It is funded by the City’s one-cent sales tax. Seventy-five percent of each penny benefits infrastructure needs and property tax relief while 25 percent supports STAR Fund-approved projects.

“Economic development strongly supports any activities and resources that will benefit the overall well-being of our residents,” said Williston Economic Development executive director, Shawn Wenko. “We encourage any non-profit group that seeks to enrich the community to apply for these funds.”

The application for the grant is available online or at the WED office at 22 East Broadway in Downtown Williston.

In 2014, a total of 14 projects located in Williston, Sidney, and Crosby received funds.

Applicants must show proof of matching funds. The grant monies may be used for capital improvements such as the purchase of land, buildings or equipment, annual or special events, or programs and operating expenses.

The Williston STAR Fund Committee will evaluate the applications and hold interviews on Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at the Alumni Room located in “The Well” at Williston State College. The Williston City Commission is expected to act on the STAR Fund Committee’s recommendations in February of 2015.
