3D Printing Talk, Demonstration At ARS Friday BrownBagger

Welders and other heavy duty tools have been the instruments of choice for farmers and ranchers needing to repair or adapt their equipment for specific jobs. But as GPS, drones and other new technologies continue to expand in agriculture, producers may find themselves reaching for a new tool in their toolbox: a 3D printer.

Brian McGinnis of Exdivio Solutions, Inc. in Sidney, MT will provide producers and others an insight into this new technology as the third speaker in the USDA-ARS Northern Plains Agricultural Research Laboratory’s 2016 BrownBagger Series. His talk will be held at noon on Friday, Feb. 12 at the Sidney ARS lab and is open to the public.

In his presentation, McGinnis will discuss the different types of printers and printing materials used in 3D printing as well as how to design projects for printing. He will also explain what happens when the file “hits the printer” and demonstrate an actual print project. In addition, he will have a collection of items he’s “printed” earlier on display.

We hope you can join us for this very interesting BrownBagger on Friday, Feb. 12! Bring your lunch and we’ll provide dessert! The lab is located at 1500 N. Central Avenue in Sidney, MT.

And consider taking in these upcoming BrownBaggers, featuring: A discussion of weeds in sugarbeet by NDSU Asst. Professor and Extension Agronomist Tom Peters of Fargo on Feb. 26, a discussion of “Invasive annual grasses: Identifying their invasion mechanisms and finding practical, process-based management solutions” by Sidney ARS Postdoctoral Researcher Merilynn Schantz on Mar. 11.
