Nice Gets Creative for The Best Kept Secret Bra Auction, April 22nd

Fourteen-year-old Shyanne Nice is currently preparing her donation to this year's Best Kept Secret Bra Auction. The 11th annual fundraising event accepts elaborately decorated bras donated by individuals, businesses, and non-profit organizations and auctions them off during a fun-filled night of food, modeling, music, and bidding. All proceeds go to the Cancer Coalition Fund, which provides financial assistance to patients receiving cancer treatment through the Sidney Health Center; these funds are specifically designated to assist with living expenses during treatment and provide cancer screening in Richland, McCone, Dawson, Wibaux, Prairie, and Fallon Counties.

Nice initially attended the Best Kept Secret Bra Auction in 2013, and made her first donation in 2014 after stopping by her mom's office at the Richland County Health Department. At that time, two other offices down the hall had been overrun by beautiful braziers in something of a lingerie jungle as donations were being taken in preparation for the auction, and the artistry grabbed Nice's attention.

"I thought it was a good way to be creative and I wanted to help," said Nice of her decision to get involved.

That first year, Nice started and finished her donation, Fishin' for a Cure, in just one night in order to get it in on time and it was auctioned for more than $200. Her second year donation was the basketball themed Shooting for a Cure, and generated over $400. This year, Nice's donation will be entitled Looking for a Key to Cancer.

With her aunt being a former recipient of the Cancer Coalition Fund, and cancer on both sides of her family, the unconventional volunteer opportunity seems to be the perfect fit for the artistic 8th grader.

"My favorite part of the bra auction is looking at all of the other donations. The metal bras that Ross Rosaaen has made are really cool and there was a cookie monster bra that Jacklyn Damm made that I liked a lot," Nice commented.

"When she first told me she wanted to do it, I was surprised, but excited," said her mother, Kay Nice. "I wasn't aware of anyone younger than Shyanne donating on their own. She's so creative I thought this would be a great outlet for a good cause."

The Best Kept Secret Bra Auction will be held April 22nd at the Richland County Fair Event Center; registration begins at 6:00pm and the auction will begin at 7:00pm. For those who are interested in donating a themed bra, registration forms can be picked up and returned to the Richland County Health Department (RCHD). Registration forms are due as soon as possible and all entries must be submitted to the RCHD by April 19th. A detailed description of the items to be auctioned must be included and there is a limit of three entries per person, organization, or business.
