Airport Land Purchase Agreements Signed; City to Move Forward on Phase One of Construction Process

Williston Basin International Airport to Become a Reality

The Williston City Commission has received signed purchase agreements for the land necessary to build the Williston Basin International Airport and will begin the bidding process to start on the first phase of construction.

The first phase of the project will be the construction of the terminal building foundation surcharge, including the preliminary construction of roads and staging areas and this is expected to be completed by year’s end. Additional work being bid this year is the rough site grading project and 59th Street re-route. Estimates for projects being bid this year are $18.5 million in construction costs. Some portions will be funded with FAA grants.

“We are excited to be starting this new phase on the airport relocation. A regional airport is essential for the continued economic growth of Northwest North Dakota and we are confident that it will positively impact Williston for many generations to come,” said Mayor Howard Klug,

Groundbreaking for the $240 million airport relocation project is slated for October 10th and will include a formal ceremony involving local, state and federal officials.
