The 4-H Shooting Sports Program is Right Around the Corner

The 4-H Shooting Sports Program is the perfect opportunity to prepare kids for Hunters Safety and enjoying shooting sports as a lifelong hobby. The program, which runs from November through May, gives archery, air rifle, and air pistol instruction, focusing on position, stance, form, release, and follow-through.

The 4-H Shooting Sports Program meets once a month at the Richland County Event Center and is taught by 4-H certified instructors. It is a set-up/take-down range and the first hour to hour and a half is spent teaching kids about related materials such as maintenance and care, with safety always being the prevalent focus.

Experts volunteer their time to come in and speak to the 4-H members about their specialty; during the 2015/2016 program, experts included local bow and rifle hunters James Decker and Austin Bement, as well as Game Warden Josh Leonard.

4-H sign-ups begin October 1st and continue throughout the month; 4-H members must be nine years or older to participate in the Shooting Sports Program and must be enrolled in 4-H for the year. For more information, contact Richland County 4-H/Youth Development Agent Josie Evenson at 406-433-1206.
