NDSU Extension Entomologist

Janet J. Knodel received her B.S. in Zoology and Ph.D. in Entomology from North Dakota State University in Fargo and her M.S. in Entomology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University in Blacksburg, Virginia. Since 2006, she has been the Extension Entomologist and Associate Professor with tenure in the Department of Plant Pathology at North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND. She provides statewide program leadership for Extension Entomology, the North Dakota Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Program, and co-edits the NDSU Crop & Pest Report. Her extension responsibilities include providing outreach on insect pests of field crops, vegetable and fruit crops, trees/shrubs, lawns, home and garden. Her research focuses on IPM strategies (cultural control, biological control, host plant resistance and chemical control) for insect pests of wheat including wheat stem sawfly and wheat midge as well as other crops. She has authored / co-authored more than 200 publications in professional, Extension, technical and trade journals including 28 peer-reviewed papers and five book chapters.
