Burglary and Theft at Local Sidney Business

On March 22, 2018 at about 0554, the Richland County Sheriffs Office received a report of a stolen 1992 Blue Chevrolet K2500 pickup from a resident southwest of Sidney. The caller stated that the vehicle may have been stolen by a male subject that had been allowed to stay at their place, and may be on his way to Billings, Montana. At about 0602 hours the same caller reported that she found that a business she manages south of Sidney that is a licensed marijuana distributor had been broken into and items were missing. Upon investigation of the burglary, it was found that over $8,000 in marijuana and related products had been taken with about $1,500 damage to the business.

Richland County Sheriffs Office had entered the vehicle as a stolen vehicle in the National Data base and notified surrounding law enforcement agencies of the stolen vehicle and burglary.

At about 0742 hours, less than two hours from the original report, information was received from the Prairie County Sheriffs Office that the reported stolen vehicle had been stopped by their agency and the driver was being detained. A search warrant was obtained to search the vehicle and items from the reported burglary had been recovered.

Formal charges have been requested for Burglary, Criminal Mischief and Theft with the Richland County Attorney’s Office. The name of the subject will be released after warrants have been served. The subject is being held in the Dawson County Detention Center at this time.

UPDATE:

On March 27, 2018, a warrant on Complaint was issued for Lonnie Allen Vandersloot, 46-year-old male with an address of Billings, Montana. Charging him with Count 1: Theft, 1st Offense Motor Vehicle Theft; Count 2: Theft, a felony, Property exceeding $1,500.00; Count 3: Aggravated Burglary, a felony, Non-residence and Count 4: Criminal Mischief less than $1,500.00. Bond was set at $50,000.00. The 4 count warrant was served on Lonnie Allen Vandersloot, who is being held in the Dawson County Detention Center on other charges.
