Re-Tree Richland County 4.0 Program, May 19

Applications are now available for the Re-Tree Richland County 4.0 program. They are available at Sidney City Hall located at 115 2nd St. SE, Sidney, MT, 59270. This is a free hands-on workshop which teaches people to learn proper tree planting of bare root trees and tree care techniques.

The workshop is scheduled for May 19 at Veterans Memorial Park from 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. Sidney Park Superintendent Stephanie Ridl explains that this years trees will be bareroot instead of containerized. These trees will be of equal quality and size as in previous years. Bareroot trees eliminate some of the issues seen in container trees such as encircling roots and they are much easier to handle, making planting less of a chore for property owners.

Available tree species include: ‘Copper Curls’ Pekin Lilac, ‘Emer Luste’ Norway Maple, Exclamation! London Planetree, ‘Bloodgood’ London Planetree, ‘Starlite’ Crabapple, Autumn Splendor’ Buckeye, Yellowwood and Sensation’ Boxelder.

All Richland County residents are welcome to attend the workshop. Applications must be returned to Sidney City Hall before April 30.

For those wanting to plant a tree on their property, and would like a site evaluation to help determine the best type of tree for the planting site, contact Ridl. The property owner must attend the Re-Tree Richland County 4.0 program and then plant and maintain the tree. Property owner must return the round fabric pot to City Hall or contact Ridl.

The Re-Tree workshops have been a true success. In the past 4 years a total of 149 trees have been given to property owners across Richland County including Lambert, Savage, Fairview and Sidney. Of these workshop participants, 31 have attended multiple workshops and 38 were from outside Sidney city limits.

There is a limit of one tree per property per year. For more information, contact Ridl at 406-480-9263.
