In 1989, Watford City had had their 75th Anniversary as a city. People got together afterward and decided that they enjoyed the festivities so much that they wanted to try to have something like that every year, so they started the Homefest. It has remained a yearly event to welcome those who have wandered and returned and to welcome those who have visited and stayed.
