Celebrate LYIP's Victory Saturday, August 25!

In just a few hours on Saturday morning, July 21, ecstatic members of the community had fleshed out the idea for a parade and picnic to celebrate Judge Morris’s positive ruling on the Intake diversion project. After years of worrying and frustration, the case was finally over and a weight was lifted off the shoulders of growers, business people and the community in general. “We felt we needed to do something to celebrate, to acknowledge this ‘big’ thing,” organizer Phil Johnson said.

Enthusiastic businesses quickly stepped up to support the event with donations and volunteers including: Sidney Sugars, Dynneson Ranch, Eagle Oilfield Services, ECS, Inc., Trust T Trucking, B&B Builders, Tri County Implement, ElectricLand, Reynolds Market and Johnson Hardware and Furniture.

A farm parade and picnic will be held on Saturday, August 25 with the parade at 4 p.m. and the picnic at 6 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to bring old and new farm equipment, horses, floats and entries of all kinds for a grand parade down Central Avenue. Line-up will be in the CHS Farmers Elevator lot at 3 p.m.

After the parade, head out to the Richland County fairgrounds for a free picnic supper of burgers, hot dogs, chips, watermelon and bottled water. The picnic will be held in the grassy area by the old Commercial building. Bring your lawn chairs as there will be very limited seating, and enjoy an evening of visiting and celebration, with a brief program. There’s ample parking in both lots for tractors, trucks and cars!

“This is a chance to thank all the farmers, everyone at LYIP, and all those who took the time and effort to attend the hearings and participate in the public comments, and the whole community for its constant support of the irrigation project,” Johnson said.
