  • Richland County Reports First Confirmed Human West Nile Virus Case for 2018

    Richland County’s first human case of West Nile Virus (WNV) has been reported for 2018 on September 10th after exposure to mosquitoes locally. The adult case was hospitalized and is now home recovering. State and local health officials are encouraging Montanans take steps to avoid mosquito bites and prevent infection with West Nile virus. WNV case tracking began in Montana in 2003. The highest number of cases reported in Richland County was 7 confirmed cases in 2007.     Paving is scheduled to begin the week of Sept. 17, and, weather permitting, will continue through mid-October on Highway 200 between Sidney and Fairview. Construction crews will begin paving along Highway 200 the week of Sept. 17 as part of the ongoing Sidney to Fairview Roadway Improvement Project. Paving is the last phase of the project to be completed this fall before work ceases for the winter months. Work will begin on the north end of the roadway and will progress south towards Sidney.     The Richland County Health Department has scheduled the annual Mass Flu Shot Clinic on October 4, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Flu shots are also available during normal clinic hours for those who cannot attend on October 4th. The flu vaccine will be available for ages 6 months and up, and high-dose is available for individuals 65 years and older. No FluMist is available.
