Watford City FFA Does Well At District Leadership

The Watford City FFA Chapter along with nine other chapters from northwest North Dakota recently held its annual District Leadership Conference at Williston State College. Watford City was well represented with 27 of its members attending along with advisors, Justin Johnsrud and Scott Wisness. Watford City placed third in Chapter-of-the-day points, behind Stanley and Kenmare.

The Parliamentary Procedure team, consisting of our chapter officers received a silver award and placed third. Members were required to perform opening and closing ceremonies and demonstrate 10 abilities in parliamentary law. This is the most competitive event at the conference. Receiving a gold individual award were vice president Saige Feilmeier, treasurer Taylor Dwyer and sentinel McKayla Haugeberg. Receiving silver individual awards were reporter Allison Monsen and secretary Jennifer Levang. Receiving bronze was president Hayes Feilmeier. The team did very well demonstrating their knowledge of parliamentary law.

The chapter was well-represented in the public speaking events. Sam Jorgenson earned gold and was the runner-up in the Job Interview Event, which qualifies her for state. Cody Johnson earned bronze in the creed speaking event. Tara Loomer received bronze in Extemporaneous Public Speaking. The demonstration team consisting of Joseph Meuchel and Andrew Sampson earned silver as well.

The Chapter Quiz team received a silver award. Taylor Dwyer and Tara Loomer received gold individually. Sam Jorgenson received bronze.

The Watford City FFA is also the sponsoring chapter of the Greenhand Parliamentary Skill Event. Twelve Greenhand teams from seven chapters participated in this event. The Watford City team earned gold. These young members are required to demonstrate four skills in parliamentary law and debate as well as perform the official Chapter Ceremonies.

Fourteen Greenhands from the Watford City Chapter took part in this event. Receiving gold were Erick Leiseth as president and Hunter Olson as student advisor. Receiving silver were Kara Langerud, president; Charles Villanueva, vice president; Alivia Olson, treasurer; Coleton Jore, sentinel, Jayden Vaupel, student sdvisor; and Clay Jorgenson, president. Receiving bronze were Logan Fettig, secretary; Bailee Garman, vice president; Joseph Meuchel, secretary; Keegan Thompson, reporter; Wyatt Staal, treasuer; and Dalton Wright, reporter. Both teams received bronze.

Members attending the District Leadership Conference had a lot of fun. It was an excellent opportunity for them to develop their leadership skills.
