Marathon Benefits Cancer Care Center

With the Mount Lemmon Marathon over, we are $2,609 closer to having Phase II of Sidney Health Center’s Cancer Care Center complete. Sunday, October 23rd at 6:00am there were over 500 participants waiting to start the world’s toughest road marathon. Staci Miller, executive director of the Foundation for Community Care was among them. Pledges came in from across the nation to support Miller’s endeavor and donate to the Cancer Care Center. Staci completed 13.5 miles (slightly over a half marathon) before having to stop from a stress fracture in her left foot and cramping. Multiple donors called and emailed after the race to say their pledge would include all 26.2 miles. “I am immensely grateful for the support from every single donor. It was their support that was going through my mind as I limped across the half marathon threshold,” stated Miller.

The Foundation for Community Care continues to raise funds for Phase II of the project, which is to relocate chemotherapy and provide a separate, private entrance to the center. This phase is dependent on support from the community and is projected to cost $1.4 million.
