Richland County Youth Rodeo June 2-3

The Richland County Rodeo Club is offering a youth rodeo again this year, it’s just different and a new format than in past years.

After refusing the assigned date of a weekend in late April by the high school association because of weather concerns, the Richland County Rodeo Club decided to hold an open youth rodeo instead on June 2-3.

The move means participants won’t need to be sanctioned by either the high school association or youth rodeo association in order to compete at the June 2-3 rodeo at the Richland County Fairgrounds. Competitors from any state or Canada are welcome to participate.

Many benefits will be the same as previous years including the same high quality prizes and top quality stock. Awards will include saddles for the girls and boys all-around winners and buckles for first-place winners. Each pee wee is awarded a prize along with boy’s and girl’s all-around buckles. Stock will be provided by Brookman Rodeo and Duane Ozark.

The rodeo will follow high school and YRA rules. As the only youth rodeo in the state of Montana that offers saddles for all-around and buckles for first place, organizers are predicting a large attendance. Volunteers are still needed.

In the past, between 100-120 participants took part in the rodeo held in Richland County. Deadline for entry is May 21. Entry forms can be found at http://www.facebook.com/R.C.R.C.OPENYouthRodeo or at the Sidney Herald or email richlandcountyrodeo [email protected]. Organizers are hoping that youth who haven’t tried events in a rodeo setting because they aren’t members of an organization, will try it at this rodeo.

High school action will start at 9 a.m. each day with junior and peewee to begin one hour after the high school division is completed.

Events for senior boys will include saddle bronc, bareback riding, bull riding, steer wrestling, tie-down roping and team roping. Senior girls’ events are team roping, barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying and breakaway roping.

Junior boys’ events are steer riding, breakaway roping, team roping, flag racing and goat tying. Events for junior girls are team roping, breakaway roping, goat tying, barrel racing and pole bending.

Pee wee events are flag racing, goat tying, barrel racing and pole bending. They also receive all-around buckles.
