Mayer Appointed to Council for Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis

Kevin Mayer, Richland Federal Credit Union manager, was recently appointed to the Community Depository Institutions Advisory Council with the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. Mayer will serve a three-year term with 10 others who act in an advisory capacity, and its members are asked to help the Federal Reserve Bank better understand the business and economics of the region.

“We are the eyes and ears of our region,” Mayer said. “Our discussion is heard by those in Wash. D.C.”

Tracie Kenyon, CEO and President of the Montana Credit Union Network, is thrilled to have a voice for Montanans on a national level.

“It is a great honor for Kevin to serve on this advisory council. His appointment underscores the truly amazing work that he’s done in the community, state, and region. From the state trade association perspective, I am always delighted to have Montanans at the table and Kevin will represent the interests of his peers exceptionally,” Kenyon said.

Meetings are held twice a year in Minneapolis and set for Tues., Mar 12 and Oct. 8 this year.

The credit union philosophy of giving back to the community is important to Mayer.

He is a Glendive native who started with Richland FCU in 1985. He is actively involved in his community. Mayer is involved with the Grizzly Scholarship Association through the Sidney Chapter, one of the founding fathers of the Sidney Walleyes Unlimited of Montana, a church trustee, and a longstanding member of the Sidney Lions Club.

Mayer is a strong proponent of financial education and is on the business advisory council at Sidney High School.

“We have a good relationship with our schools and providing the students valuable financial education,” he said of Richland FCU.

Every year Mayer speaks to eighth-grade students about the overall importance of finance and he visits with them again when they are seniors discussing the value of how credit is earned.

He is also on the Board of Directors for Kansas Corporate Credit Union, was a member of the Montana Credit Union Network’s Government Relations Committee, and has been a strong advocate and mentor to many of the small credit unions in eastern Montana.

When he is not working or volunteering he enjoys golfing, fishing and bow hunting.
