Brownbagger Features New MSU Research Head At Conrad, MT

The USDA-Agricultural Research Service’s Northern Plains Agricultural Research Laboratory (NPARL) welcomes Dr. Gadi V.P. Reddy, the new Superintendent at Montana State University’s Western Triangle Ag Research Center, to Sidney this Thursday and Friday to meet ARS and MSU scientific staff, discuss possible collaborations, and present a Friday BrownBagger on Feb. 15th.

A recent arrival to Montana, Dr. Reddy previously worked at the University of Guam’s Western Pacific Tropical Research Center where he was engaged in biocontrol of weeds and insects until his move to the MSU facility at Conrad, MT. His BrownBagger presentation Friday will reflect that earlier association and is entitled “Integrated Control Tactics of insect pests in Tropical and Subtropical Crops.”

The event is open to the public, so take a break from the winter blues and join us for Dr Reddy’s tropical presentation Friday from noon to 1 pm at NPARL.

In addition to his new supervisory duties, Dr. Reddy also serves as an MSU Associate Professor of Entomology/Insect Ecology at the Conrad research facility. Research programs at Conrad include soil nutrient management, cultural practices such as no-till seeding methods for cereal grain, oilseed, and pulse crop production, and cooperative cereal breeding and wheat-stem sawfly management projects.

NPARL’s 2013 BrownBagger series is held in the lab’s Tech Transfer Room on Fridays, from noon to 1 p.m. The lab is located at 1500 N. Central Avenue in Sidney, MT.

Remaining speakers in this year’s series include:

Friday, March 1: Erin Espeland, NPARL Plant Ecologist; “Production farm location affects subsequent seed performance in Sandberg’s bluegrass”

Friday, March 15: Robert Srygley, NPARL Insect Ecologist, “U.S. Agriculture in a Changing Climate”

Friday, March 29: Upendra Sainju, NPARL Soil Scientist; “Life-cycle assessment of dryland greenhouse gas emissions affected by cropping sequence and nitrogen fertilization”
