Brunsvold Wins Southeastern Montana Rodeo Queen Title

Sidney native Jade Brunsvold won the title of Miss Southeastern Montana Rodeo Queen at a pageant held during the Bucking Horse Sale in Miles City in May. Brunsvold returned to the Miles City pageant after winning the Miss Southeastern Montana Teen Rodeo Queen title in 2012.

Brunsvold, a 2013 Sidney High School graduate, lives on 25 acres near Crane, MT with her parents, Mary Jo and Lance Brunsvold.

Brunsvold has grown up with her three horses Scotch, Jo Jo and Dakota. An equestrian by nature, she learned to jump and ride dressage at an early age. She became interested in rodeoing and the western way of life in the 7th grade. “I compete in barrel racing and pole bending,” Brunsvold stated. To date she has earned thirteen buckles and three saddles.

Pageantry was a passion for Brunsvold at an early age as well. “I always admired how beautiful the women in pageants were,” she said. A busy youngster, she never thought she would have the time to pursue pageantry. Competing in rodeo queen pageants was perfect for her. “This lets me do both of the things I love, pageants and horsemanship,” she stated.

As an experienced teen rodeo queen, Brunsvold looks forward to her new role as Miss Southeastern Montana Rodeo Queen. “I love all the things you get to do as a rodeo queen,” she said. Brunsvold’s duties include carrying flags in parades and rodeos, volunteering at community events, conducting rodeo queen clinics, promoting rodeo and helping kids. “Speaking in front of people is scary for most kids but it really helps you later in life,” Brunsvold stated.

One of Brunsvold’s fondest moments as teen rodeo queen was being invited to the annual Flag Day and All Horse Parade held in Medora, ND. At the event she signed autographs and rode with other rodeo queens. “It was neat to meet and ride with the other rodeo queens. There were rodeo queens from all over there,” she said.

When she isn’t rodeoing and fulfilling her Rodeo Queen duties, Brunsvold enjoys hockey, dance, scuba diving and traveling the world. She plans to attend NDSU in the fall with a pre-med major. She hopes to one day move to Texas with a degree in optometry and, of course, keep on rodeoing!
