Annual Field Day at the Montana State University Eastern Agricultural Research Center (MSU-EARC) on July 18

The Annual Field Day at the Montana State University Eastern Agricultural Research Center (MSU-EARC) in Sidney, MT, will be held Thursday, July 18. The day begins at 8:30 a.m. with coffee and rolls, greetings and introductions at 9 a.m. followed by the tours at 9:20 a.m., as well as a sponsored lunch at 12 noon.

There will be a number of guest speakers during the tour. Dr. Jerry Bergman, Director NDSU Williston Research Extension Center will speak about safflower varieties and production; Chet Hill, ag diversification extension specialist, NDSU Williston Research Extension Center will talk about alternative crops for the MonDak region; Dr. Luther Talbert, spring wheat breeder, Montana State University will educate everyone on spring wheat varieties; Dr. Tom Blake, barley breeder, Montana State University will speak about barley varieties; Dr. Gadi Reddy, entomologist and superintendent, MSU Western Triangle Research Center will give the latest on sawfly research; Diana DeYoung, Montana Department of Agriculture pesticide field contact will inform everyone about pesticide programs; Dr. Bart Stevens, research agronomist, USDA ARS is going to talk about the sugarbeet phosphorus study; Ben Larson, agriculturalist, Safflower Technologies International will speak about soy bean production; Russ Fullmer, agriculturalist, Sidney Sugars, Inc. will speak about sugarbeet varieties; Dr. Joyce Eckhoff, research agronomist, MSU Eastern Agricultural Research Center will provide information about sugarbeet research at EARC; Dr. Tatiana Rand, entomologist, USDA ARS will talk about biology and biological control of alfalfa weevils; Dr. Dave Branson, entomologist, USDA ARS will speak about biological control of grasshoppers; Dr. Darrin Boss, beef specialist, MSU Northern Agricultural Research Center will give information on grazing over crops and Tim Fine, Richland County extension agent will talk about the community garden.

The general public as well as all ag producers are cordially invited to attend and participate in the EARC Field Day activities one mile north of Sidney on Highway 200. Meet in the EARC parking lot, east side of the highway.
