Ranger Talks Continue at MHC

The MonDak Heritage Center is happy to announce Thursday, August 8th, at 7pm the Fort Union Ranger Talk Series continues with a presentation from Fort Union Park Ranger Fred McVaugh. Mr. McVaugh’s subject will be the Confluence of art and science at Fort Union titled: One-Upping the Coasts: Fort Union and the Origins of America’s Most Prized Possessions. Artists and scientists documented the Confluence more fully than any area west of the Mississippi River during the active period of Fort Union. During that pivotal time, the years before Gettysburg, they challenged their countrymen to think differently about the nation and future. The people, surprising beauty, and wildlife they discovered here, in the middle of nowhere, defied conventional wisdom. Instead of remaining the Great American Desert, the region became the birthplace of “America’s Best Idea.” It’s a heritage to be embraced and celebrated.

The Ranger Talk series lectures begin at 7:00 pm Mountain Time.

This lecture is made possible by Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site and the membership of the MonDak Heritage Center.
