Farm Safety 4 Just Kids Mid-Dakota Chapter Awarded Volunteer Chapter of the Year for 2012

The Mid-Dakota Chapter of Farm Safety 4 Just Kids was recently awarded the Volunteer Chapter of the Year award for 2012. The award included recognition for their exceptional volunteer efforts, a trophy and check in the amount of $400 for chapter expenses.

Every year thousands of volunteer hours are spent teaching children, youth, and farm families about farm safety. The hard working volunteers dedicated to educating youth in the community teach prevention of the hazards that children face every day while growing up in rural areas.

Since the Mid-Dakota chapter of Farm Safety 4 Just Kids began, thousands of kids have attended farm safety camps, school programs, booths, health fairs and ag shows conducted by the chapter volunteers. They have also facilitated Off-Highway Vehicle seminars, held in conjunction with the North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department, and awarded close to 400 helmets to students receiving OHV certification.

“We put our heart and soul into educating the communities we serve in north western North Dakota. Every child and their family benefits from our effort,” says Allie Sagness, Mid-Dakota Chapter President.

The national Farm Safety 4 Just Kids organization was established in 1987 by Marilyn Adams who began the group after the loss of her own son in a farm accident. The Mid-Dakota chapter was started in 1988. Their mission is to promote a safe farm environment to prevent health hazards, injuries and fatalities to children. Each year there are thousands of children hurt, even killed, on a farm.

Accidents can be prevented if we raise awareness and educate people on prevention. If you are interested in being a member, a sponsor, or would just like safety information presented to a group or organization, please contact any member or Allie Sagness at (701) 377-2656.
