R.E.A.C.H. Camp

The RiverStone Health Eastern Montana Area Health Education Center (AHEC), in conjunction with Sidney Health Center, will hold a Research and Explore Awesome Careers in Healthcare (R.E.A.C.H.) Camp at Sidney Health Center in Sidney on Tuesday, October 22 starting at 8:00 AM. R.E.A.C.H. Camp provides an opportunity for students in grades 9-12 from Richland County to learn about the healthcare field. The Camp includes presentations from healthcare professionals, hands-on activities, and peer interaction. Students will get the opportunity to gain an understanding of the following areas: ambulance, lab, nursing, pharmacy, surgery, radiology, rehab, and respiratory therapy.

R.E.A.C.H Camps were developed in an effort to ease the healthcare workforce shortage across Montana and the United States by exposing students to professional opportunities in healthcare. Consider…

The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) estimates that there will be a shortage of 124,000 physicians by 2025- 37percent of which will be Primary Care physicians.

Estimates show that by 2014, there will be 2.4 million new healthcare jobs nationwide.

Of Montana’s 56 counties, 40 are designated Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSA) in primary care.

Cassandra Staton, AHEC Outreach Coordinator with RiverStone Health says, “R.E.A.C.H. Camps are an opportunity, not only for the students, but for healthcare facilities to invest in their future workforce.”
