Letter to the Editor

Dear Friends & Neighbors:

Andrew Carnegie said that “Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision.

The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results.”

Richland County has certainly created uncommon results through many years of teamwork.

In a time of increasing demands and decreasing resources it is even more important to work together to solve issues in creative ways.

The Richland County Quality of Life Strategic Plan is unique. This is a plan that is put into action through the steering committee and various action groups. The plan is a county-wide plan that is not owned by one entity.

Improving our community is the responsibility of our leaders but it is also our responsibility. It is the residents’ responsiveness to concerns and needs that is the foundation of American democracy.

The County Commissioners honor the process by supporting the strategic planning effort; however, the plan turns into action only if the residents are involved.

The Richland County Strategic Planning process incorporates five steps that research shows improves communities.

Conduct a formal community-needs assessment

Build your community’s capacity to solve problems

Implement processes for community improvement

Create a strategic and action plan

Create and maintain collaborations and partnerships
