Watford City, North Dakota YES WE ARE OPEN

In Watford City, we're pretty well-known for the energy industry, but did you know we are still a world class destination? Whether you are hoping to work, stay or play, Watford City area offers everything you need in terms of activities, comfort, and amenities.

On your trip, you will learn a lot about the growth of our region. You'll see the expansion of our roads, the busy movements of the energy industry, and an incredible pace of housing and commercial construction.

You'll also rediscover the spectacular outdoor and historical activities our region has long offered. Take a step off Highways 85 and 23 and you'll find vast untouched wilderness in the Theodore Roosevelt National Park and the surrounding grasslands. Last summer, a group of environmental scientists from Canada traveled more than 100 miles by foot throughout the national park and surrounding region, finding little sign of man or industry besides a scattering of farms and ranches.

In addition to the magnificent Theodore Roosevelt National Park and the northern trailhead of the Maah-Daah-Hey Trail, Watford City is located in the heart of western North Dakota's premier vacation attractions including the Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site and the Missouri-Yellowstone Confluence Interpretive Center; the east is the Mandan-Hidatsa-Arikara Tribal Museum and the Earth Lodge Village at Four Bears; and of course the boating and fishing activities offered by beautiful Lake Sakakawea.

At night, you'll be well taken care of in Watford City. The energy industry has driven the addition of many new hotels and you'll have you're your pick of amenities between the seven hotels in Watford City alone. While you'll have no problem getting a room, you will be well nourished at the city's many food and beverage establishments.

The best part – Our region has a busy summer coming up with a number of community celebrations.

We kick off the summer June 26 through 29 with Watford City's Centennial Celebration, a festival that will include four straight days of concerts, arts and crafts, children's activities, golf and much more. You can even time your trip with a stop in Tioga the Wednesday before it all starts in order to catch the Million Barrel Party, celebrating the achievement of 1 million barrels of oil production per day within North Dakota.

If you can't make this trip, consider coming for our many other events, such as the hometown Fourth of July Celebration in Arnegard, the McKenzie County Fair, the renowned Cliff Hanger 4x4 Club Rendezvous which includes competitors from across American and Canada, and the Best of the West Ribfest where you'll find companies and groups competing against one another.
