Montana Shakespeare in the Parks to Perform As You Like It and Romeo and Juliet on 2014 Summer Tour

Montana Shakespeare in the Parks has chosen Shakespeare's "As You Like It" and "Romeo and Juliet" for its upcoming 2014 tour throughout Montana, northern Wyoming, eastern Idaho, western North Dakota and eastern Washington this summer.

In its 42nd season, the troupe expects to perform 75 shows in 61 communities in the region. The company features 10 professional actors selected by national auditions who tour without technical assistance to bring quality live theatre to rural areas.

The company launches its 10-week tour June 18th with eight performances in Bozeman at the MSU duck pond before hitting the road June 30th. This season the company has added performances in Trout Creek and Belgrade, MT. The tour will conclude at the MSU duck pond on September 7th with a showing of "As You Like It." This final performance is designated as a special thanks to MSU's Family and Graduate Housing, who have for years helped house the company during the rehearsal process.

"It is an immense honor to have the opportunity to serve the Rocky Mountain community in our continued tradition of providing excellence in theatre for the variety of rural communities across the region." said Kevin Asselin, MSIP's new artistic director.

Asselin, who has been with MSIP in various roles for 12 years as tour actor, educator, fight choreographer and director, now heads the company and will direct this year's production of "As You Like It." Asselin will set the play in Butte, MT during the tumultuous years of the Copper Kings and union conflicts.

"Romeo and Juliet" will be directed by MSIP's William Dickerson. This is Dickerson's fourth season directing for the summer tour. This production promises exciting sword play and a lush, romantic design full of color and texture.

All performances of Montana Shakespeare in the Parks, with the exception of those at Bozeman's Sweet Pea Festival, are free. Audiences are encouraged to show up prior to curtain time with chairs, blankets, a picnic supper, friends and family to enjoy the evening.
