Montana Red Cross Asks Public to Give Something That Means Something - Give Hope To Those In Need During The Holiday Season

Every eight minutes, the American Red Cross brings help and hope to someone in need in this country. This holiday season, the Red Cross is asking everyone to remember those who need this assistance and give something that means something.

Every year, right here in Montana, the Red Cross responds to disasters like wildfires, floods, landslides, avalanches, and extreme winter weather. During the fall and winter months, the Red Cross also responds to many home fires across our state, helping families that may have lost everything and have nowhere else to turn. Within minutes of being notified, trained Red Cross volunteers step in to provide emergency shelter, food, clothing, and many other essentials to the victims of homes fires, so that they can begin the process of recovery. But the Red Cross cannot provide this assistance without the support from the people of Montana.

“Please help us help those in need by taking part in the annual Red Cross Holiday Campaign,” urges Diane Wright, Executive Director of the American Red Cross of Montana. “Your support can help a victim of a disaster like a home fire, someone needing blood or a member of the Armed Forces who is far from home.”

HOLIDAY GIVING CATALOG

One way a person can support the Red Cross is to visit the Red Cross Holiday Giving Catalog at http://www.redcross.org/gifts and select a symbolic gift for someone on their holiday list. The gift is tax-deductible and will support Red Cross programs like these: Disaster Services - 70,000 people turn to the Red Cross every year for help during a disaster,

Service to the Armed Forces - members of the military, veterans and civilians receive about 400,000 Red Cross services every year.

Blood Services – patients in about 2,700 hospitals and transfusions centers across the country depend on Red Cross blood donors to help them regain their health.

Catalog items include things like infant care kits for babies in emergency shelters, comfort kits for wounded warriors, or emergency kits that provide a month of supplies for a family overseas involved in a disaster. Catalog purchases come with greeting cards shoppers can send to a friend or loved one, letting them know a donation has been made in their name.

There are other ways to help, too. People can schedule an appointment to give blood or become a Red Cross volunteer. The Red Cross welcomes volunteers of all background and abilities.

“We ask people to remember all those who are looking to the Red Cross for help and to be generous this holiday season,” Wright said.

You can help people affected by disasters like home fires, as well as countless other crises at home and around the world, by making a donation to support American Red Cross Disaster Relief.
