Public Hearing Notice for Corn Check-off Research & Production Education March 17 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.in Miles City
Helena, Mont., Montana’s Corn Advisory Committee will be holding a public hearing to receive relevant input from growers, producers, and first purchasers regarding the creation of a proposed corn check-off program to support corn research and production education in Montana.
The department of agriculture has received a petition containing more than 25 signatures from corn growers throughout the state proposing a corn check-off program to advance corn research and production education in the state.
The committee and representatives from the department of agriculture will be accepting public comments regarding the proposed check-off at a public hearing on March 17, 2015 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the Fort Keogh Livestock and Reach Research Laboratory, 243 Fort Keogh Road, Miles City, MT 59301.
After receiving public comment at the hearing, the committee, in consultation with the department of agriculture, will determine whether to hold a referendum on the issue. No check-off can be created without a positive vote through referendum of impacted growers and producers.
The five-member advisory committee was created at the request of corn producers to advance corn production within the state.
