The Week of the Young Child

The Week of the Young Child™ is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the world's largest early childhood education association, with nearly 80,000 members and a network of over 300 local, state, and regional Affiliates.

The purpose of the Week of the Young Child™ is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.

NAEYC designates the Week of the Young Child™ dates and theme, but events are planned and implemented by local communities. Celebrations are organized and coordinated by regional, state, and local NAEYC Affiliates, and by individual early childhood programs and community organizations providing services to young children and families.

The Sunrise Child Care Association again celebrates the Week of the Young Child in 2015. We had a variety of activities including theme days in participating child care sites from April 13th through April 17th. In Lambert, the school and the Lion's Den joined us to invite preschoolers and their parents to walk a lap on the track and then have a meal at the Lion's Den. The turnout was great! Sunrise Child Care Association also gave away a basket to the family of the first baby born during the Week of the Young Child. Congratulations to the O'Brien Family!

Upcoming events include our Children's Carnival on Sunday, May 3rd from 2 pm to 4 pm at the Richland County Fair Event Center and Provider Appreciation Day on May 8th.
