Snoopy is Honorary Chair for Library Card Sign-up Month 2015!

The Library card is the Coolest Card – September is Library Card Sign-up Month

Snoopy, the world-famous beagle has been known as The Flying Ace, The Masked Marvel, Man’s Best Friend, and the Literary Ace, among other personas; this fall he makes his star turn when he comes to the big screen in The Peanuts Movie from 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios. In September, he’s especially proud to serve as Honorary Chair of Library Card Sign-up Month.

Studies show that children who are read to in the home and who use the library perform better in school. September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when the Sidney-Richland County Library joins with the American Library Association and public libraries nationwide to make sure that every student has the most import school supply of all – a free library card.

Resources at the Sidney-Richland County Library are available to anyone who has a library card. Students can turn to the library for materials, programs and knowledgeable library staff that support academic achievement. The library offers special programs and events 2-3 times each week. You can stay up to date with all the latest information on the Sidney-Richland County Library Facebook page.

Today’s libraries aren’t only a place of quiet study, but also creative and engaging community centers where anyone can collaborate or just relax with friends. Our library offers access to a variety of print and digital resources, including downloadable e-books and audio books, information on hobbies and crafts, home improvement projects, small engine and auto repair. Students can access a wide variety of databases (newspapers, magazines and reference materials) to complete any homework assignment.

“Our library provides access to programs for people of all ages,” says Kelly Reisig, Director. “For preschool age children we offer early literacy story times to encourage school readiness, for older children and teens we supplement education with hands-on science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM ) programs, and for older teens we have information and tools to help prepare for college. There’s really something for everyone and it’s all free with a library card.”

For more information on how to sign up for a library card, visit the Sidney-Richland County Library in person, call 433-1917, visit the library online at http://www.richland.org/spl, or look for our mobile library card sign-up events.
