The Parade of Trees on Display at the MonDak Heritage Center

It is that time of year again, and the Parade of Trees is being hosted by the MonDak Heritage Center, 120 3rd Ave South, lending its festive display to Sidney’s local museum through December 7th. This is the first year that the event has been held at the MonDak, previously being hosted at Reynolds Market and the Village Square Mall.

“The MonDak Heritage Center was quick to jump on board with the Parade of Trees this year,” commented Kim Simmonds, Executive Director. “Not only does it help one of the largest non-profits in our community, but the trees and wreaths on display will create a beautiful backdrop for our MonDak Christmas event, which will take place the first Sunday in December.”

“The staff at the MonDak Heritage Center have been excellent in helping us with this project,” said Developmental Director of the Boys and Girls Club of Richland County Michele Seadeek.

The Parade of Trees began in 2006 as a fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Club of Richland County and the Family Resource Center, having raised thousands of dollars for the organizations; local residents and businesses are invited to donate decorated trees and wreaths to be auctioned off Saturday, November 28th from 6:00pm to 7:00pm during the Christmas Stroll with the Parade of Lights to follow. There is room for thirty-two trees and eight to ten wreaths, depending on size, and entry forms can be picked up at the Boys & Girls Club, 200 3rd Ave SE. Those who donate are asked to glue the sections of the tree together, glue bulb ornament tops onto the bulbs, and wire all ornaments to the trees to prevent them from being broken when they are picked up. It is also asked that there are no loosely glittered ornaments, real feathers, or live plants including fruits and vegetables on the donated trees and wreaths. The last day to donate and set up is November 20th and voting for Best of Show, People’s Choice, Most Creative, and Best Wreath will begin November 21st. November 21st will also begin the bidding for six dessert gift baskets and one gingerbread house; a list of what each basket contains will be available at the MonDak and the silent auction for this will be held during the live auction on the 28th.

Extension cords will not be included with the auctioned trees, but must be provided and labeled for the display; extension cords can be picked up following the auction. Purchased trees and wreaths can be picked up December 7th and 12th; for more information or to donate an item, contact Seadeek at 406-433-6763 or Project Coordinator for the Family Resource Center Melissa Kostelecky at 406-433-4097.
