County Agent Update

2016 Cropping Decisions

Around this time of year, farmers are finishing up with their current years crop and already thinking about the next year. 2016 is right around the corner, so now is the time to start making some decisions for your farming operation. On Thursday Dec. 10, North Dakota State University (NDSU) Extension Service will be putting on a program at the Williston Research Extension Center. This program is called Cropping Decisions for 2016: Putting the Profit Back In Your Crop. The topics for this meeting are as follows; Crop Outlook: Don’t Shoot The Messenger, this will be presented by Frayne Olson, NDSU Extension Crop Marketing Economist, Consideration for 2016, presented by myself, Danielle Steinhoff, Williams County Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension Agent, Prioritizing Limited Operating Dollars, presented by Dwight Aakre, NDSU Farm Management Specialist, Outfoxing Foxtail, this will be presented by Shana Forster, NDSU Area Extension Specialist, Crop Systems, Managing the Fertilizer Budget, this will be presented by Chris Augustin, NDSU Area Extension Specialist, Soil Health.

The time for this program will be at 1 p.m. and should not go past 4 p.m.

Putting on this program is a chance to learn about some of the predictions and best practices for the next growing season. The Williston Research Extension Center is located at 14120 Highway 2, Williston. We will be meeting at the Ernie French Center. This program will be done in the following counties as well, Ward, Bottineau, Burke, Divide, Mountrail, McKenzie, and Pierce. NDSU Beef College

When having a cattle operation, you never have a day off. There is always something to consider or look into when new information comes out. On Thur., Dec. 3, at the Ramada Bismarck Hotel & Conference Center, there will be NDSU Beef College. This event is from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. A great lineup of presenters from NDSU, CattleFax, Bismarck State College and North Dakota Beef Commission. Registration is due Dec. 1.
