Jaycees Donates To Gifts From The Heart

On Wed., December 9, Jaycees donated a $1,500 check to Gifts from the Heart for their food bank. This generous donation will help Jackie and Arien Waller, a mother-daughter team, provide food and other goods for over 300 families in Sidney and surrounding areas. Some items Jaycees has been able to bring this year are turkeys, 5lb bags of potatoes, toothbrushes and hopefully toothpaste. "This helps a lot of kids, and Jaycees has helped tremendously throughout the years. Jaycees has been donating money and providing goods to Gifts from the Heart for over 25 years and has been doing an outstanding job," said Arien Waller.

Jaycees has done a lot more services throughout the Sidney community over the years. The worldwide volunteer organization heads up the Punt, Pass, and Kick Competition every year in Sidney, 4th of July fireworks, and even the Demolition Derby. They also do the flags for the veterans that you see every year on Veteran's Day. "We really try to help every where possible.", said Jonny Nelson, president of Jaycees. "I really like to think of it as a strong mentoring program, and its great to see how this organization changes people through volunteering." If you would like to join Jaycees, the organization meets every 2nd and 4th Thursday at the VFW hall at 7 p.m., and you must be between the ages of 18-40.
