Dedication Plaque Presented to Alton Hillesland By The Boys & Girls Club Of Richland County And The City Of Sidney

The Boys & Girls Club of Richland County was developed in 2003 and supports 188 members this school year with an average of 100+ daily. The City of Sidney and its residents have been great supporters of the Boys & Girls Club of Richland County since this inception. As the need for larger spaces for the Club grew and continues to do so every year the City and Boys & Girls Club started working together on finding property for a Clubhouse location. The property that was ultimately decided upon is located within Johnson Park due to its proximity to West Side Elementary school.

In building this partnership with Boys & Girls Club the city received dedication rights for that property. Mayor Norby and the City of Sidney chose to dedicate the land in the name of Alton Hillesland, whom they felt is a significant representative of our community and who continues to support Richland County youth. Alton and his wife, Harriet, have been residents of Sidney since 1976 where he performed duties as pastor of Pella Lutheran Church, raised their family and where Alton is currently the city’s building inspector. At the January city council meeting Mayor Norby and Boys & Girls Club presented the dedication plaque to Alton for his many years of service to our community. An additional permanent plaque will be embedded in a large stone on the dedicated property when construction is completed on the Clubhouse sometime in 2018.
