Parents of Preteens/Teens are Invited to Parenting Classes

Families with preteens (ages 11 and 12) and teens are invited to attend Active Parenting of Teens: Families in Action scheduled for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. CT on Feb. 8, 16, 22 and 29 at CrossPoint Church, 304 2nd Avenue Northeast, in Watford City.

Parents will receive: Help in communicating with your teen, tools to provide direction with discipline and insight into today’s teen issues.

Topics of sessions include:

February 8: Understanding Parents and Teens, School Success, Mutual Respect, Choices, Drugs, Sexuality and Violence and Taking Time for Fun.

February 16: Cooperation and Communication.

February 22: Responsibility and Discipline, Acceptance and Consequences.

February 29: Courage, Self-Esteem and Encouragement.

Active Parenting of Teens: Families in Action was designed to reach a cross-section of families in a range of family structures. It is appropriate for families with significant teen problems such as drug use and those with everyday challenges such as disrespectful behavior.

Parents and preteens/teens are encouraged to attend the course together. Trained facilitators will lead a parent group and a preteen/teen group meeting separately. If it is not possible for preteens/teens to attend classes as a family, parents may attend without their children or preteens/teens may attend without their parents.

This course is free of charge and both parents and preteens/teens will receive a workbook.

To register your attendance at Active Parenting of Teens, please call the McKenzie County Extension Office at 701-444-3451 or CrossPoint Church at 701-444-2355 or email Kimberly.neprash@ndsu.edu or info@crosspointnd.com.
