DICKINSON, N.D. – Dickinson State University and North Dakota State University (NDSU) recognize the need to provide timely, effective reclamation information to affected stakeholders in the Bakken energy development. This is especially true in uncertain economic times. This effort began in February 2013 when the first reclamation workshop was held in Dickinson. This year’s fourth annual workshop is titled “Reclamation: Where Do We Go from Here” and will be held Feb. 22-23, 2016 at the Astoria Hotel & Event Center in Dickinson. Hosting the event are NDSU Extension Service, Dickinson State University, Society for Range Management and BKS Environmental Associates, Inc.
The evening session Feb. 22 will highlight keynote speaker Kathy Neset of Neset Consulting. Ms. Neset will provide information, from the perspective of a private oil and gas consultant, on issues related to oil development in North Dakota. Vendors will present their services and/or products in a trade show atmosphere. Registration begins at 3 p.m. with the trade show opening at 5 p.m. and the keynote speaker at 6:30 p.m.
The 2016 workshop will have 3 major sessions beginning at 8 a.m. Feb. 23. The morning session is on ground and surface water while the afternoon session is about spill remediation.

Kevin Sedivec, NDSU, Reclamation: Developing a Checklist for Better Communications, David Saxowsky, NDSU, Discussion of Surface Rights and Legal Issues, Erin Espeland, USDA-ARS, Cover Crops & Reclamation, Dave Toledo, USDA-ARS, Reclamation & Rangeland Health.
Topics and speakers for the spill remediation session are:
Aaron Daigh, NDSU, In Situ Brine Spill Remediation Methods: A New Approach, Hannah Tomlinson, NDSU, USFS Research, Peter O’Brien, NDSU, Remediation of a Crude Oil Spill Using Thermal Desorption: Agronomic Implications, Landowner Panel Discussion.
Second-day registration begins at 7:30 a.m. through the east doors of the hotel. Registration costs for this event are $75 by Feb. 12 and $90 at the door.
