Busy Summer For All Ages At Sidney-Richland County Library

The Library will host two summer programs

Travel back in time to 79 AD and learn about the “Leisure and Luxury in the Age of Nero: The Villas of Oplontis near Pompeii”. Thanks to a partnership with the Museum of the Rockies at Montana State University and Project Archeology, kids will have the chance to do their own mini archeological coin dig and experiment with volcanic eruptions! This three-day program will be held on May 31, June 1 and June 2. Each day the program will begin at 1:30 p.m. and end at 3 p.m.

The following week the library will host a concert in the park to kick off its annual summer reading program. The concert will be held at 2:30 p.m. Jack and Kitty are an Emmy Award winning folk duo. They describe their unique sound as “organic vaudeville folk”. Jack and Kitty are based in Minneapolis, Minnesota and perform over 300 shows a year at major theaters, performing art centers, fairs, and festivals nationwide. Jack and Kitty have performed in 19 countries, toured for the US Pentagon, and sang at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts. They also created and co-starred in a hit preschool kids television series, which currently airs on over 150 PBS member stations nationwide and in 175 countries worldwide via the AFN Family Network.

This year’s summer reading program focuses on wellness, fitness and sports. There will be four groups based upon age. Infants, toddlers and preschool age: “On Your Mark, Get Set, Read” program, school age: “On Your Mark, Get Set, Read” program, teens: “Get in the Game: Read” program and adults: “Exercise Your Mind – Read” program.

The program will be held for six weeks. Everyone will have a chance to participate in a wide array of fun activities and events. Prizes will be awarded as well.
