African Children's Choir To Perform In Sidney Once Again

Sidney is being graced with another opportunity to see the African Children's Choir. This year the choir will be performing at the Sidney Middle School on Fri., May 20, 2016 at 7 p.m., hosted by Lonsdale United Methodist Church.

The African Children's Choir is known for melting the hearts of audiences prompting standing ovations after nearly all of their performances.

One of the chaperon's coming with the children, Eva Nalukwago, joined ACC in 1995 when she was only 7 years old. "I traveled with the group for 2 and a half years, going all over Europe, the United States and the U.K.," said Eva. Traveling and performing through the choir, Eva was able to go to school and get her degree in Linguistics and Management.

"Before the choir, I had a very rough life. I was born into a family of 5 children, my father was without a job, there was no way to feed us all," said Eva. She had no choice but to be sent to her grandmother. This did not make life easier, as she was living with extended family and was doing many hard chores by herself. This left her a miserable child. But, Eva was able to go to a primary school sponsored by Music For Life, a parent association with the African Children's Choir. Through this school, choir trainers recognized Eva's talent and love for music and they asked her to join the ACC. This sent Eva on her 2 and a half year journey all over the world. "There were so many great experiences we were blessed with, like going to Disney and Sea World."

Eva has been chaperoning the choir since 2011 and wouldn't change it for the world. "It is so beautiful to see the support we receive from all around the world, and there is no better feeling than seeing just how happy it makes the children. Their faces, they just light up into unexplainable joy. They all inspire me to work even harder." One of the children's favorite things is meeting all sorts of new people and receiving hugs, love and support.

Eva asks the public to come and support the children in the upcoming concert. "I wouldn't be where I was today without Music For Life and ACC; I have gone to school and I have a degree and it was all made possible through this program. Help these children grow and help Africa tomorrow. We are who we are because people helped us so much, these children are Africa's future."

African Children's Choir and Music For Life have helped over 52,000 children become successful leaders and helpers of their communities.

The concert is free admission, although there will be tables where concert goers may donate as well as meet Eva, the children, and so much more. The concert will be held on Friday, May 20th, 2016 at 7 p.m. at the Sidney Middle School.
