Tessa Larsen Participated In MedStart Camp

Ten high school juniors and seniors from eastern Montana participated in the 2016-Miles City MedStart Camp from July 17-21. MedStart Summer Camp is a 5-day summer camp program sponsored by the Montana Area Health Education Center (AHEC) system. The program is designed to encourage students to pursue their interest in a variety of healthcare careers. The aim is to provide students a chance to further explore healthcare careers, learn about college life, and realize it is possible to pursue higher education. Five MedStart programs were offered in the summer of 2016; Missoula, Butte, Miles City, Great Falls and Billings.

Culbertson student Tessa Larsen participated in the week long camp. She toured and received information at many area healthcare facilities including OneHealth, Holy Rosary Healthcare, Hogan Dental, Miles City Fire/Rescue, Fort Keogh, MCC Nursing and Dahl Memorial in Ekalaka, completed job shadowing at Holy Rosary Healthcare and Miles City Fire and Rescue in Miles City and was exposed to many different opportunities. She also spent one evening having fun at the WaterWorks Art Museum learning print making from Mark Stevens. The students spent the week at the Miles Community College dorms to give them a taste of college living.

North Eastern Montana AHEC located at Montana Health Network in Miles City sponsored the Miles City camp. Other sponsors of this event include: Miles Community College, Holy Rosary Healthcare and OneHealth Montana, all in Miles City, in addition, Nibs and Edna Allen Foundation, BNSF Foundation, Dahl Memorial Healthcare in Ekalaka and Roosevelt Memorial Medical Center in Culbertson all provided financial support.
