Irrigation Canal Springs a Leak

A section of the Lower Yellowstone Irrigation Project canal suffered a major blowout a few miles south of Sidney Sunday night, August 21. Crews immediately shut off the water at Intake as soon as the break was noticed. At this time, no major crop losses have been reported, however some pasture land was flooded and Dave Haverkamp's farmstead has excessive water.

The break affects the entire valley past Intake, at a time of hot, dry weather.

LYIP officials are currently assessing the damage and discussing repairs. (Photos submitted)
