Sidney Man Held on $2 Million Bond Awaiting Justice Court, Sept. 7th & District Court, Sept. 14th

Raymond Blair Hansen, 35, was taken into custody by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department on Wednesday, Aug. 24th at approximately 10:52am, and was charged with deliberate homicide in the death of Terry Klein, 63. Richland County Coroner Maggie Gist performed an autopsy the following day, and announced on Friday, Aug. 26th that Klein had died as the result of a gunshot wound to the head.

Klein worked for Franz Construction and had been on a job-site south of Sidney, working to repair a breeched irrigation canal when the incident occurred. The Richland County Sheriff’s Department received a call from one of Klein’s co-workers at 9:01am that morning requesting Emergency Medical Services and law enforcement. The victim, and long-time Sidney resident, died at the scene.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department has issued multiple search warrants in an attempt to recover the weapon. Authorities are still trying to determine motive, as well as the reason Hansen was at the location, since he was not a Franz Construction employee. Authorities believe he acted alone.

On Aug. 25th Hansen appeared at a preliminary hearing in Richland County Justice Court with bond set at $2 million. Hansen is scheduled to appear in Richland County Justice Court on Wednesday, Sept. 7th and in Seventh Judicial District Court on Wednesday, Sept. 14th. Hansen is being held at the Richland County Detention Center.
