McKenzie County Welcomes New Extension Agent Morgan Myers

Morgan Myers started as the new McKenzie County Extension Agent on Sept. 6, 2016. Myers was born and raised in South Dakota, working on her family's ranch and taking part in FFA and 4-H. She attended college at South Dakota State University where she received her bachelor's degree in Range Science in 2014.

Myers family had relocated to the badlands west of Grassy Butte, and after college, she joined them, running cattle and further helping-out with the family operation where she could. After getting engaged to a rancher in Keene, ND, Myers decided to pursue a different career in agriculture that would allow her to be closer to Keene. She wanted to start a Range Judging Team, and through her 4-H involvement, heard about the Extension Agent position.

"I'm excited to use my knowledge to help people. I want to reach out to people whether they are farmers, ranchers, or lawn and garden enthusiasts," Myers commented.

Extension Agent responsibilities include addressing crop and livestock issues, and Myers is confident in her ability to do just that.

"I recently heard someone say that an Extension Agent is like an Ag Dr.," she said. "I've been involved in agriculture all my life and we get ample and unbiased information from NDSU to better serve Ag businesses. I think that both of those things have prepared me for this position."

Additionally, Myers writes regular Extension Agent articles for the McKenzie County Farmer newspaper, and says she is most looking forward to the county fair.

"I'll be responsible for a large portion of the livestock and livestock judging, and helping the 4-H and FFA kids will be fun," she added.
